Access to, and use of, livewire.org.au and livewire.org.nz is subject to the following terms and conditions:

If you are under 18 years of age, your parent or guardian accept these Terms and Conditions on the execution of the online member registration process that is required for you to access the user generated content on the Site.

If you are 18 and over, you accept these Terms and Conditions on your first use of the Site. Livewire reserves the right to change these terms and conditions at any time. You accept all such revisions by accessing any part of the Site after the revision is made available from the Site.

The Service
Livewire provides a free and safe online community for young people affected by a serious illness, chronic health condition or disability.  

You are responsible for obtaining access to the Site, and that access may involve third-party fees (such as Internet service provider or airtime charges). You are responsible for those fees.  In addition, you must provide and are responsible for all equipment necessary to access the Site.

By signing up to Livewire you are agreeing to these policies.

To register you give us personal information in respect of which you have certain rights. By using the Site you grant Livewire consent to use your personal information in accordance with the Livewire Privacy Policy and acknowledge that these terms and conditions of use should be read in conjunction with the Privacy Policy.

To access livewire.org, information about your account and to change your personal details you are required to enter a username and password. The username and password are used in order to protect your privacy and security. It is your responsibility to ensure that you do not allow your user name or password to be disclosed to any other person. Members have the ability to change their own password at any time.

Livewire Members: Applicants that meet the following criteria are able to obtain Livewire membership (which includes access to all Livewire.org features and content):

  • are aged between 12 and 18 years old
  • have a disability, serious or chronic illness
  • submit online membership application on members.livewire.org.au or members.livewire.org.nz
  • pass all Livewire Membership eligibility and applicant and guardian/parent identity check tests (100 points of i.d. validated) within the first two weeks of registration.


  • are over 18 years and under 21 years old
  • have a disability, serious or chronic illness
  • submit online membership application on members.livewire.org.au or members.livewire.org.nz
  • pass all Livewire Membership eligibility and applicant identity check tests (100 points of i.d. validated) within the first two weeks of registration.


  • are over 18 years and under 21 years old
  • have a brother or sister living with a serious illness, chronic health condition or disability
  • submit online membership application on livewire.org.au or livewire.org.nz
  • pass all Livewire Membership eligibility and applicant identity check tests (100 points of i.d. validated) within the first two weeks of registration.

Upon the completion of the online registration process, members receive full access into the Livewire community and the Livewire Member features prior to being validated.

Non-validated members are all identifiable to Livewire Admin users only to ensure they are moderated more closely in the community prior to the validation process taking place.  

This access will be taken away from the member if they aren’t validated within 2-4 weeks (Livewire will alert the member during this time to contact us for validation should they wish to continue).

You agree that Livewire may, under certain circumstances and without prior notice, immediately terminate your membership and access to the livewire member community.  Cause for such termination shall include, but not be limited to, (a) breaches or violations of these terms and conditions, or other incorporated agreements or guidelines, (b) requests by law enforcement or other government agencies, (c) a request by you (self-initiated account deletions), (d) discontinuance or material modification to the Site (or any part thereof), (e) unexpected technical or security issues or problems, (f) extended periods of inactivity, and/or (g) engagement by you in activities which Livewire deems in its sole discretion to be inappropriate, fraudulent or illegal. Termination of your Livewire account includes removal of access to all Livewire member services and content. Further, you agree that all terminations for cause shall be made Livewire’s sole discretion and that Livewire shall not be liable to you or any third party for any termination of your membership.

User Generated Content
The Sites may contain material uploaded, posted, emailed or otherwise electronically transmitted (Posted) by users of the Sites, including you (User Generated Content).

Livewire may monitor or exercise editorial control over User Generated Content and we reserve the right but not the obligation to access or examine any User Generated Content. Livewire will remove from the Site any User Generated Content which we consider, in our sole discretion to be incompatible with any Livewire, livewire.org.au or livewire.org.nz policy.

Where you submit any contribution to any of the Sites or you have Posted materials on these Sites, you grant by such submission Livewire a license to use, reproduce, delete, modify, adapt, publish, transmit, or translate, any such work, and you acknowledge that other users may access that information and that Livewire is therefore not responsible for the privacy or security of any such information.

You should not post any information which might make you feel uncomfortable if it was known by people you do not know. You warrant that the material you post and/or contribute is not confidential to or owned by another person and that the receipt of the material by Livewire is not illegal or defamatory and will not expose Livewire to any civil or criminal liability. By accepting the Terms and Conditions, your guardian and you indemnify Livewire against all legal fees, damages and other expenses that may be incurred by Livewire as a result of your breach of the above warranty or your use of the Sites.

You and/or your guardian or parent acknowledge and agree that:

  • Livewire may remove material posted by you in accordance with any guidelines produced by Livewire from time to time.
  • Livewire has no responsibility or liability for the deletion or failure to store any communications or other content maintained or transmitted on the Sites.
  • Livewire in its sole discretion and with or without notice may vary the Sites or any part of the Sites and modify these Sites and the services available on it.

You agree not to upload, post, broadcast or transmit any file, data, information, software, material or routine that interferes or is likely to interfere with any person’s use of these Site.

Research and Evaluation
Livewire is committed to ensure that Livewire meets the needs of the users. From time to time, we may undertake some research and evaluation activities with registered users to gain feedback and to better understand their needs.

The process may consist of asking users to complete short surveys whilst visiting the Livewire Sites, and all information collected will be maintained in accordance with relevant Australian research standards and Livewire Privacy Policy.

Registered users may opt not to participate, or withdraw from participating in these activities at any time. This will not affect their relationship with Livewire or their use and access to Livewire and other Livewire programs.

The findings from these research and evaluation activities may be presented in reports, conference papers or published in journals or media releases, however users’ names will not be disclosed .

If Livewire seeks registered users to assist in media releases or conference presentations, additional consent will be gained from the guardian of individuals aged under 18 years or from each individual aged over 18 years.

Sharing Information
Any information collected by Livewire on the Sites may be shared within Livewire and its related bodies corporate, partners, and service providers.

If you use any link that is offered through the Sites then the policies of the organisation operating that linked site will apply to any information you provide about yourself once you have entered that link. Livewire is not responsible for the privacy or security of any such information, and we are not responsible for any content found on a Third Party Page, or any Sites of which it forms a part.

In order to provide a personalised service we allocate a unique identifier to your browser by using software known as a ‘cookie’. This software does not pass any personal information to Livewire or any other organisation and is only used to identify your browser. Cookies store information regarding your preferences and other information specific to you and may be viewed by Livewire and any other persons who have access to your computer.

Trademarks & Copyright
All rights, including trademarks and copyright and database rights, in the Site and its contents, are owned by Livewire .

In accessing the Sites, you agree that you will access the contents for intended purposes only. Nothing you do on or in relation to these Sites will transfer any copyright or other intellectual property rights to you or license you to exercise any copyright or intellectual property rights unless this is expressly stated and permitted.

You may view, copy, print and distribute material in electronic or other forms but you must retain copyright and other intellectual property notices from the original material. You must not use or distribute the material for any public or commercial purposes and you must not breach copyright or any other intellectual property rights of livewire or its licensors, or copyright or any other intellectual property or privacy rights of other users of the Sites.

Applicable Law
The Terms and Conditions and the relationship between Livewire and you shall be governed by the laws of New South Wales without regard to its conflict of law provisions. You and Livewire agree to submit to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales.

You agree to indemnify and hold Livewire and its subsidiaries, officers, agents, affiliates, employees, partners and licensors harmless from all claims and demands, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, due to or arising out of content you submit, post, transmit or otherwise make available through the Sites, your use of the Sites, your connection to the Sites, your violation of these terms and conditions, or your violation of any rights of any third party.

Entire Agreement
These Terms and Conditions represent the entire agreement between you and Livewire, and supersedes all prior agreements between You and Livewire.
